It's not easy to be a parent and as most parents know, there is no manual that tells you what to do. Most parents tend to parent their children based on the "manual" that is in their heads. That manual is based on experiences from their own childhood. In other words, most people parent their children the way in which they were parented because that's all they know. They don't take the time to decide if the way they were parented is what will work with their child. One approach may work with one child but may be very ineffective with another. This is especially true of discipline.
Discipline should be chosen based on the personality of the child. A timid child may only require redirection. A strong willed child may require a stern voice, for example. The best form of discipline is the relationship that you have with your child.
Parenting issues generally require that your child receive therapy, also. Please note that we are currently working only with youth ages 13 and older. For more information, please contact our office at (954) 443-2182. We will be happy to help you enhance your parenting style.
